I'm Michelle, the founder and dreamer behind Wayza Health and I'm passionate about changing the way women lose weight.

Here's my story

I am an emergency physician in Alberta, Canada. I am also an overweight woman who has struggled for decades with my own weight and body image. I have spent my adult life constantly battling the urge to overeat with my desire to be thin and healthy. As a physician I understood the nutritional aspects of a healthy diet, but having the knowledge wasn’t enough to produce the changes I wanted in my body. And so I pursued extra training in life coaching, nutrition coaching, the science of habit formation, and eating psychology. And this is where the magic is. There is so much work that needs to happen on the inside before we can see changes on the outside.

I founded Wazya Health to help successful, professional women who, after years of dieting, understand that optimal weight and health is more than calories-in-calories-out. I want to help women listen to that quiet voice inside that tells them there’s deeper work to be done when it comes to weight and body image.

I once heard a Swahili phrase while working in Tanzania: Wanawake Wanaweza. This means “women can.” And yes, women definitely can. So Welcome to Wayza Health - where women can break free from self-criticism, judgment and shame and move towards complete health, in both body and mind.

For far too long we've been inundated by negative messages about food, weight and diet.

We’ve been told that we are willpower weaklings or that we need more se[f-control. And we are told that the royal road to weight loss is simply to eat less and move more. But anyone who has struggled with weight knows that it’s so much more complicated than this. Even the nutrition experts promote conflicting advice, leaving us confused about what to eat and how to have a healthy relationship with food.

As a Mind Body Eating Coach, I combine the best strategies from nutrition science, eating psychology, the science of habits, and life coaching. I eliminate all the diet rules and focus on what’s right for YOUR body and YOUR personal preferences. In this way, eating and weight issues become a place of exploration. Instead of seeing challenges with food and weight as the enemy, they become opportunities for growth and self-improvement. And so I help my clients reach their highest goals not by strategies that punish, but through strategies that nourish the body and strengthen the mind.

I'm on a mission...
The reason I do my work today is because too many women are afraid to take up space, be bold, and follow their dreams because they are ashamed of the body they live in. So I help them reconnect to their true purpose and find peace in their body so they can stop constantly obsessing about food and weight and finally achieve their heart's true desire.


The Resume



I became a coach because of the frustrations I encountered on my own personal weight loss journey. I hired a coach to help me out, and it transformed my life in ways I never thought possible. I want to pay that forward to other women who, like me, have spent too many years and way too much energy stressing about weight loss and getting nowhere. And although my personal journey informs much of what I teach to my clients, I also have additional training that gives me all the skills I need to make sure you find the same freedom from food I enjoy.

  • Medical qualifications I am certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine, which means I understand exactly what's happening in your body when you carry extra weight. Although I do NOT provide any medical advice inside my coaching programs, having this knowledge gives me an edge over most other weight loss coaches out there.
  • Nutrition coaching qualifications With my Level 1 and Level 2 Precision Nutrition coaching certifications, I am skilled at coaching nutrition and dietary changes, as well as habit change overall. Realizing that nutrition is NEVER enough for weight loss, I also did training in mind body eating...understanding WHY we overeat is really the key for sustainable weight loss.
  • Life coaching qualifications As the old adage goes, how we do one thing is how we do everything. It's very true that how we do food is often how we do life too. And if you struggle with weight loss, there's a good chance that other domains of your life are contributing - relationships, family, work, money, sexuality, stress. Coaching you through all of this is what leads to your true transformation - from the inside out.

My approach is positive, compassionate and empowering. I don’t see your eating challenges as a sign that “something is wrong with you”, but rather as a place where we can explore all of the parts of life that impact weight and health. I look to support you with coaching strategies and nutrition principles that are nourishing, doable, sustainable, and that yield results.
